Focus Friend
REAL TIME ENGAGEMENT DATA
HOW IT WORKS

01
FORM
An electronic wristband with bio-feedback sensors that synchronizes to an electronic computer/mobile application and to a data-storing, user-networking website. Our product is called FocusFriend (FF).
02
FUNCTION
The Internet-of-Things-enabled FocusFriend productivity wearable will use sensors to monitor bio-feedback for analyzing mental state and then will use neural network machine learning and an electronic application to give the user focus-improving advice. FocusFriend will develop and use various methods to coach users away from distractions and into a state of deep focus.
03
BENIFIT
FocusFriend will allow users to allot their time to priorities, rather than to distractions that provide little to no benefit to the user.
This electronic, intelligent, ever-present, IoT-connected life coach helps you focus on accomplishing tasks. The ability to focus, like any human habit, is trainable. Our wrist-mounted bio-feedback device collects and processes your real-time engagement data to help you train your focus.
As the workforce becomes increasingly automated, the amount of required focused knowledge work will increase and wield a larger and larger impact. Without quantifiable results through most of employees' work, focusing on goals can be immaterial. With engagement feedback, we have solved the problem of tracking progress and allowed people to become more self-aware and in tune with their priorities.

The facts:
· People waste 20-40 hours each week on things that don't matter to them; this is ¼ of their waking lives. 1
· 89% of employees admitted to wasting time at work - mostly due to technology.2
· The number of people wasting three or more hours at work was surprisingly high at 18.5%.3
· Contrary to popular belief, multitasking is not effective; Miller, a professor of neuroscience at MIT, says that for the most part, we simply can't focus on more than one thing at a time.4
Society has become overrun with corporations, advertisers, and online con-artists who fight for your time, attention, and cash. People find themselves glued to apps and websites like Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. Cal Newport, MIT Ph.D. and author of Deep Work, writes in his book, “Communication services like e-mail and SMS, social media networks like Twitter and Facebook, and the shiny tangle of infotainment sites like BuzzFeed and Reddit...combined with ubiquitous access to them through smartphones and networked office computers, has fragmented most knowledge workers’ attention into slivers.” 5 Newport explains that a knowledge worker is anyone whose job benefits from deep, concentrated focus.
Marketing and social media sites are designed to capture our human psychology. So, we get naturally get distracted and don't realize the time we lose. Especially in mass-production USA, human beings are over-booked yet under-performing. Media and technology addictively lures us in and wastes our precious time. This man-made world of distractions fights for our attention and lessens our productivity, causing us to experience lower life satisfaction. Our lack of focus pervades our life, slows down our progress towards our goals, and even detracts us from quality leisure time. Psychology shows that when humans accomplish their plans and authentically connect with others, they are at their happiest. But, the US (along with other top-producing nations India and China) is one of the most depressed and anxious places in the world.6 This is because people are not owning their time. Instead of achieving what research knows to make people happy – personal accomplishment, strong social ties, and good health – people are distracted by the instant-gratification of the Internet.
